TERENCE PANG-YEN DUNN is master instructor of Chinese martial, yogic, and healing arts with more than 51 years of training based in Los Angeles, CA. Since 1989, he has popularized authentic Tai Chi and Qigong practice throughout America and Europe with his highly acclaimed Tai Chi for Health and Chi Kung For Health DVD programs that have been the perennial top-sellers in the Tai Chi and Qigong genres in the video industry over the past 36 years. Terry has also pioneered the practice of Tai Chi and Qigong in modern medicine and professional sports over the past 30 years. Educated at Yale College and the Harvard Business School, Dunn is a gifted teacher, author and filmmaker expressing an ecumenical vision in preserving for posterity some of the most rare and powerful energy arts and yogic philosophies of ancient China. Sifu Terry Dunn's 51 years of classical training in Chinese holistic health practices includes more than 35 years in T'ai Ch'i Ch'uan, Qigong and Chinese systems of meditation, and more than 50 continuous years in three styles of Chinese boxing (kung-fu). He has studied under some of the most renowned Chinese martial art masters in America: Master William C.C. Chen and the late Master Abraham Liu in Yang style T'ai Chi Ch'uan in the manner of Terry Dunn has taught Chinese martial and healing arts in Los Angeles for more than 35 years and has been on the faculty of Emperor's College of Trad. Oriental Medicine since 2013, where he teaches three NCCAOM-accredited required courses in Tai Chi Chuan and Medical Qigong, and an elective course in Flying Phoenix Qigong—all as part of the college’s Chi Concentration Program. He conducts his Tai Chi for Health and Qigong For Health seminars nationwide for private and public sector organizations. Since 2017, he has been the master-in-residence at Eastover Estate in Lenox, MA and teaches at other holistic health centers in the Berkshires such as Canyon Ranch and the Austen Riggs Therapy Center. He also at the Open Center of New York City, Tao Retreat in Catskill, NY (Han Chinese Culture Association--Hancca), and Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. Over the past 30 years, Terry Dunn has pioneered the practice of Tai Chi and Qigong in western medicine and professional sports. From 1996 to 2002, he taught his signature Tai Chi For Health course at Cedars Sinai Medical Center for cardiac rehab outpatients. In 1999-2000, he wrote and implemented the first in-hospital Qigong protocol in American medical history for Cedars Sinai’s Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, then headed by Dr. Greg Fontana--in order to accelerate the recovery of acute-care post-operative patients by supplanting the use of pain-killing drugs. In 2000-2001, Terry became the first Tai Chi trainer in the NBA, providing the Los Angeles Lakers with a 50-minute Tai Chi and Kung Fu warm-up and conditioning regimen at the start of every home practice during their second World Championship season under coach Phil Jackson. Since 2013, he has been a faculty member at Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicineº in Santa Monica, CA, where he teaches three NCCAOM-accredited courses in his specialties of Tai Chi Chuan, Medical Qigong, and Ehrmei Mountain Flying Phoenix Qigong—anchoring Emperor’s Chi Concentration Program. Terry Dunn has devoted most of his adult life to making ancient Chinese holistic health traditions—now extinct in China due to its Cultural Revolution-- safe and accessible to the world and to infusing western medicine with these esoteric systems of hygienics that have verifiable public health value that are truly groundbreaking—thus furthering preventative medicine and ultimately, global wellness using traditional methods.
